Chiang Mai City tour

This half day Chiang Mai city tour visits three of the city's most significant Buddhist temples: Wat Chiang Man, Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara and Wat Suan Dok. In around four hours, you move through more than seven centuries of Lanna history, architecture and Buddhist tradition, with an English speaking guide alongside you throughout.

Hotel pickup

Your guide meets you for a hotel pickup in central Chiang Mai and travels with you between each stop in an air conditioned vehicle. Along the way, the guide walks you through the background of each site, so you arrive at every temple already knowing what to look for.

Wat Chiang Man

The tour opens at Wat Chiang Man, Chiang Mai's oldest temple, constructed in the 13th century. Walking its grounds, you take in carved details and chedis that have stood for more than 700 years, an outstanding early example of Thai religious architecture and a fitting starting point for a tour built around the city's history.

Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara

From there you continue to Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara, home to the largest chedi in Chiang Mai, standing 282 feet tall, alongside the city pillar shrine and some of the finest Lanna architecture in the region. Dating to the 14th century, the temple carries the weight of that history in its weathered stone and carved surfaces.

Wat Suan Dok

The tour closes at Wat Suan Dok, a temple complex set outside the Old City walls. Its golden bell shaped chedi and white mausoleums, the resting place of Chiang Mai's Royal family, reflect a blend of Sri Lankan and Thai design, and the spacious grounds offer a quiet close to the tour after three temple visits.
