Oman — Visa Overview

About Oman

Oman is one of the Arabian Peninsula's most extraordinary and authentically captivating destinations — a Sultanate of timeless beauty, remarkable cultural heritage, and dramatic natural landscapes that set it apart from every other country in the region. Unlike its Gulf neighbours, Oman has chosen a path of measured, sustainable development — preserving its ancient traditions, stunning architecture, and pristine natural environment while quietly emerging as one of the Middle East's most compelling travel destinations.

Muscat — the graceful capital — enchants visitors with the magnificent Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, one of the most beautiful mosques in the world, the historic Mutrah Souq with its labyrinthine alleyways and the scent of frankincense, and the stunning Royal Opera House that has established Oman as a serious centre for arts and culture. The ancient city of Nizwa — Oman's former capital — captivates with its iconic circular fort, vibrant Friday goat market, and the timeless rhythm of traditional Omani life. The Hajar Mountains offer dramatic canyon landscapes, ancient falaj irrigation systems, and picturesque mountain villages that have changed little over centuries.

Salalah — Oman's second city in the southern Dhofar region — transforms into a lush green paradise during the Khareef monsoon season, drawing visitors from across the Gulf to experience its extraordinary misty landscapes, cascading waterfalls, and cool temperatures. The Empty Quarter desert, the dramatic fjords of Musandam, the pristine turtle nesting beaches of Ras Al Jinz, and the crystal-clear waters of the Daymaniyat Islands add further dimensions to Oman's extraordinary diversity. Safe, welcoming, and deeply hospitable, Oman consistently ranks as one of the safest and most authentic travel destinations in the world — a destination that rewards every traveller with a genuine and unhurried Arabian experience.

What is an Oman eVisa?

The Oman eVisa is a fully digital travel authorisation issued by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) — the authority responsible for all visa and immigration matters in the Sultanate of Oman. It is applied for entirely online through the official Royal Oman Police eVisa portal — evisa.rop.gov.om — and issued electronically to the applicant's registered email address as a PDF document. No embassy visit, no passport submission, and no in-person appointment is required at any stage. Upon approval, the eVisa PDF must be presented upon arrival at Omani entry points — airports, seaports, and land border crossings.

Do You Need an Oman Visa? — UAE, India & KSA

UAE Nationals: UAE nationals are fully visa-exempt as GCC members and may enter Oman freely without any visa, eVisa, or application of any kind — entry is granted on presentation of the UAE national ID card or Emirati passport.

UAE Residents of Other Nationalities: The visa requirement is determined entirely by the passport held — not by UAE residency status. UAE residents holding other nationalities are eligible to apply for the GCC Resident Tourist eVisa (Visa Type 29A) — provided their job title appears on the Royal Oman Police's approved profession list and their UAE Residence Visa is valid for the duration of the trip. Companions of the main traveller — spouse and children — may apply under Visa Type 29B. UAE residents whose profession is not on the approved list must apply for a standard tourist eVisa through the same official portal.

KSA Nationals: Saudi Arabian nationals are fully visa-exempt as GCC members and may enter Oman freely without any visa or application.

KSA Residents of Other Nationalities: KSA residents holding other nationalities are eligible to apply for the GCC Resident Tourist eVisa — subject to the same approved profession list requirement applicable to UAE residents. KSA residents whose profession is not on the approved list must apply for a standard tourist eVisa.

Indian Nationals: Indian nationals may enter Oman visa-free for up to 14 days — provided they hold a valid visa or residence permit issued by the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Japan, or any Schengen member country, or hold a valid GCC residency in an approved profession. This 14-day visa-free facility also extends to the accompanying spouse and children under 18 years of age. Indian nationals who do not hold a qualifying third-country visa must apply for an Oman tourist eVisa through the official ROP portal before travel.

Visa Types — Available on the Official eVisa Portal

The Royal Oman Police eVisa system offers four visa categories applicable to Rayna's markets:

1. Unsponsored Tourist eVisa
The most commonly used tourist visa — applied for independently online without requiring an Omani sponsor or invitation. Available in three options:

  • 10-day single entry — valid for 10 days of stay, must enter within 1 month of issue
  • 30-day single entry — valid for 30 days of stay, must enter within 1 month of issue — extendable once for an additional 30 days
  • 1-year multiple entry — valid for 1 year from date of issue, up to 30 days stay per visit, unlimited entries

2. GCC Resident Tourist eVisa (Visa Type 29A / 29B)
Exclusively for residents of GCC countries — UAE and KSA residents in approved professions. Allows a single entry of up to 28 days — extendable by one additional week. The applicant's job title must appear on the ROP's approved profession list and the GCC Residence Visa must remain valid for the duration of the trip. Companions — spouse and children — apply under Visa Type 29B.

3. Sponsored Tourist eVisa
For visitors who have a sponsor in Oman — an Omani citizen or legal resident willing to formally sponsor the visit. The sponsor must be registered on the ROP eVisa system with a valid Civil ID number. The sponsored visa is valid for 3 months from the date of issue.

4. Express eVisa
For urgent travel requirements — processed on a priority basis. Valid for 1 month from the date of issue. Available at an additional fee.

Important — Dubai/Qatar Joint Visa

Travellers holding a valid Dubai or Qatar visa may be eligible for a free joint visa to enter Oman — provided they are travelling directly from Dubai or Qatar. This visa is obtained through a paper application — not online — through an Oman Embassy or authorised travel agency. The joint visa must be valid for at least 21 days before entry into Oman. Rayna Tours will advise on the Dubai/Qatar Joint Visa at the time of enquiry.

Important Entry Requirements

  • Passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of entry into Oman.
  • Return or onward flight ticket — mandatory. Visitors not holding a return or onward ticket may be refused entry.
  • Confirmed hotel booking for the duration of stay.
  • Travel health insurance covering the full duration of stay — recommended.
  • Sufficient funds to support the stay in Oman.

Overstay Penalties

Overstaying in Oman is subject to a fine of OMR 10 per day. Significant overstays may result in detention, deportation, and a 2-year entry ban. All fines, penalties, and legal consequences are the sole responsibility of the traveller.

Processing Time

Processing is typically completed within 24 hours to 4 working days from the date of application submission. The ROP recommends applying at least 4 days before the intended travel date. Complex cases or incomplete documentation may extend the processing time. The official eVisa portal is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

All visa decisions — including approval, refusal, validity, and permitted stay — rest solely with the Royal Oman Police and Omani immigration authorities at the port of entry.
