Taiwan ā Visa Overview
About Taiwan
Taiwan ā officially the Republic of China ā is one of Asia's most vibrant, dynamic, and genuinely captivating travel destinations ā a compact island nation off the southeastern coast of mainland China that packs an extraordinary range of natural beauty, rich culture, world-class cuisine, cutting-edge technology, and some of the warmest and most welcoming people in Asia into a geography barely larger than the Netherlands. Often described as the heart of Chinese culture, Taiwan has preserved and celebrated its extraordinary heritage in a way that no other destination in the Chinese-speaking world has ā while simultaneously embracing innovation, creativity, and a distinctly open, inclusive, and forward-looking society.
Taipei ā Taiwan's electrifying capital ā is one of Asia's most fascinating and liveable cities. The iconic Taipei 101 ā once the world's tallest building ā soars above a city of extraordinary culinary richness, world-class museums, and a night market culture that is unlike anything else in Asia. The Shilin Night Market Ā· Raohe Night Market Ā· Ningxia Night Market ā each a universe of sensory delight ā have made Taipei's street food scene one of the most celebrated in the world. The National Palace Museum ā housing one of the world's greatest collections of Chinese art and artefacts ā the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, the vibrant Ximending district, and the extraordinary hot springs of Beitou combine to make Taipei a city of genuinely extraordinary depth and energy.
Beyond Taipei, Taiwan reveals a country of staggering natural beauty. Taroko Gorge ā one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in Asia ā is a marble-walled canyon of extraordinary grandeur carved by the Liwu River through the Central Mountain Range, with sheer cliffs rising hundreds of metres above crystal-clear turquoise waters. The Sun Moon Lake ā Taiwan's largest and most beautiful body of water ā nestled high in the mountains of Nantou County amid mist-shrouded forests and indigenous Thao culture, is one of the island's most iconic and serene destinations. Alishan ā the high-mountain forest of the central ranges ā enchants with its ancient cedar and cypress forests, the extraordinary spectacle of the cloud sea at sunrise, and one of the world's most scenic narrow-gauge mountain railways. Kaohsiung ā Taiwan's dynamic southern port city ā dazzles with its Love River, the extraordinary Lotus Pond, the former British consulate at Takao, and a rapidly growing arts and cultural scene that has made it one of Asia's most exciting emerging destinations.
The Penghu Islands Ā· Green Island Ā· Orchid Island ā each a world of extraordinary marine biodiversity, pristine beaches, and unique indigenous culture ā complete a travel experience of remarkable diversity. Taiwan's cuisine ā from the legendary beef noodle soup and oyster vermicelli to the world-famous bubble tea invented here and the extraordinary variety of its night market fare ā is widely regarded as one of the world's great food destinations. Taiwan is a destination of extraordinary warmth, beauty, and cultural richness ā a country that rewards every traveller with genuine depth, authentic welcome, and experiences that linger long after departure.
What is a Taiwan Visa?
Taiwan issues visas through the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of China (Taiwan) ā the sole government authority responsible for all Taiwan visa matters. Depending on the applicant's passport nationality and country of residence, entry into Taiwan is possible through one of the following routes ā Visa-Exempt Entry, eVisa, Landing Visa, or Visitor Visa (Sticker Visa) applied through a Taiwan representative office abroad.
Taiwan does not have diplomatic relations with many countries ā including the UAE, India, and Saudi Arabia ā and therefore does not operate a traditional Embassy in these countries. Instead, Taiwan operates through representative offices and commercial offices that perform consular functions. In the UAE, this is the Commercial Office of Taipei, Dubai, located at Sharaf Travel Building, 153 Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road, Bur Dubai.
