South Korea — Visa Overview

About South Korea

South Korea is a nation of extraordinary dynamism — a place where ancient heritage and ultra-modern innovation exist in perfect harmony. From the majestic royal palaces and traditional hanok villages of Seoul to the tranquil Buddhist temples of Gyeongju, the volcanic landscapes of Jeju Island, and the vibrant port city of Busan, South Korea offers every traveller a richly layered and deeply rewarding experience.

Seoul — one of Asia's most exciting capital cities — captivates with its seamless blend of history and hyper-modernity. The ancient grandeur of Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukchon Hanok Village stands in striking contrast to the futuristic towers of Gangnam, the world-class shopping districts of Myeongdong, and the neon-lit energy of Hongdae. Busan enchants with its stunning coastal scenery, vibrant seafood culture, and the iconic Gamcheon Culture Village perched on its hillsides. Jeju Island — often called the Hawaii of South Korea — offers breathtaking volcanic craters, pristine beaches, and dramatic lava tube caves.

South Korea is also the global epicentre of K-pop, Korean cinema, and Korean cuisine — a cultural powerhouse that has captivated audiences worldwide. As the host of the Visit Korea Year 2025–2026 promotion, South Korea has actively opened its doors wider to international visitors, making this one of the best times to visit this remarkable country. For business travellers, Seoul is a leading global hub for technology, automotive, electronics, and finance — home to some of the world's most recognised brands and corporations.

What is a South Korea Visa?

A South Korea visa is an official travel authorisation issued by the Republic of Korea's Ministry of Justice, permitting foreign nationals to enter South Korea for tourism, business, or other short-term purposes. The applicable pathway depends entirely on the passport held — not the country of residence.

Do You Need a South Korea Visa? — UAE, India & KSA

UAE Nationals: UAE nationals are visa exempt and may enter South Korea for stays of up to 90 days without a visa. Additionally, as part of South Korea's Visit Korea Year promotion, UAE nationals are currently exempt from the Korea Electronic Travel Authorisation (K-ETA) requirement until 31 December 2026. UAE nationals may therefore travel to South Korea freely without any pre-travel visa or K-ETA application until this date.

KSA Nationals: Saudi Arabian nationals are visa exempt and currently K-ETA exempt until 31 December 2026. KSA nationals may enter South Korea for short stays without a visa or K-ETA application during this period.

UAE Residents & KSA Residents of Other Nationalities: Residents of the UAE and KSA who hold other nationalities — such as Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Bangladeshi, Egyptian, or Nigerian passport holders — are not covered by the visa exemption arrangements of their country of residence. Their visa eligibility is determined solely by the passport they hold. Most such nationalities are visa-required for South Korea and must apply for a regular sticker visa through the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. UAE residents apply through the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate General in Dubai, depending on their emirate of residence.

India Nationals: Indian nationals are required to obtain a visa before travelling to South Korea. The standard tourist visa for Indian nationals is the C-3-9 category. First-time applicants typically receive a single-entry visa — with a clean travel record on the first trip, multiple-entry validity of up to 5 years is commonly granted on subsequent applications. Applications are submitted through the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in New Delhi or the respective Consulate General with jurisdiction over the applicant's place of residence.

K-ETA — What Is It and Does It Apply to You?

The Korea Electronic Travel Authorisation (K-ETA) is a digital pre-travel authorisation system for nationals of visa-exempt countries. South Korea has officially extended the temporary K-ETA exemption until 31 December 2026 as part of the Visit Korea Year promotion. This means eligible visa-exempt travellers — including UAE and KSA nationals — do not need to apply for a K-ETA before travelling to South Korea until the end of 2026. Applicants are advised to confirm the latest status before travel, as this exemption is subject to review and may not be extended beyond December 2026.

Visa Types — Tourism & Business

Tourist Visa (C-3): For short-term tourism, sightseeing, leisure travel, visiting family or friends, and cultural activities. Permits a stay of up to 90 days. May be issued as single-entry or multiple-entry depending on the applicant's travel history and profile.

Business Visa (C-3-4): For attending business meetings, conferences, trade events, and short-term business negotiations. Applicants must be invited by a South Korean company and must demonstrate the business nature of their visit. It is not permitted to perform revenue-generating work or receive remuneration on a business visitor visa.

Visa Validity & Permitted Stay

The validity, number of entries, and permitted stay duration for the regular sticker visa are determined solely by the issuing Korean Embassy or Consulate, based on the applicant's nationality, travel history, and profile. As a general guide, first-time applicants typically receive a single-entry visa valid for 90 days, while frequent travellers with a strong travel record may be granted multiple-entry visas valid for up to 5 years — all at the sole discretion of the issuing authority.
