This day tour travels from Chiang Mai to three of the most distinctive temple and museum stops in northern Thailand: the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), the Blue Temple and the Black House Museum, all set in Chiang Rai province.

The White Temple

The tour opens at Wat Rong Khun, built almost entirely in white with inlaid mirrored glass and designed by the Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. Elaborate carved details cover the exterior, from the ornamental bridge lined with reaching hands to the murals inside the main hall, and the all-white palette makes the temple stand out from the gold-toned temples found elsewhere in Thailand.

The Blue Temple and Black House Museum

From there, the tour continues to the Blue Temple, Wat Rong Suea Ten, finished in deep blue and gold and designed by an artist trained under Kositpipat himself. The last stop is the Black House Museum, Baan Dam, the former home and studio of the late national artist Thawan Duchanee, made up of dozens of dark timber buildings set across landscaped grounds and filled with wood carvings, animal bones and traditional Thai artefacts.

A local lunch and a bottle of water are included between stops, and an English-speaking guide travels with the group to explain the story and symbolism behind each site. Roundtrip transfer from your Chiang Mai hotel is included, so the day's logistics are handled from pickup to drop-off, leaving you free to focus on the sites themselves.

Each stop offers a different visual style within a single day trip, from the White Temple's mirrored white surfaces to the Blue Temple's color and the dark, carved interiors of the Black House Museum. Rayna's team in Chiang Mai handles the booking and stays available if you need help before or during your day out.
