Getting kitted up

Once you arrive, you're escorted to the parasailing boat and fitted into a harness attached to the winch line. The crew are trained and experienced, with well maintained boats and safety gear, including harnesses, winches, ropes and lifejackets. You get a full safety briefing and a run-through of hand signals before you take off, so it makes little difference whether this is your first flight or your fifth.

Up at 500 feet

Once you're airborne past 500 feet, Langkawi opens up beneath you: limestone karsts, green hillsides, neighbouring islands and the line where white sand meets turquoise water. Go for a late-afternoon slot and the sky shifts through shades of orange and pink as you float above the coast. The speedboat then slows, the winch reels you back in, and you're lowered gently back down onto the deck.

The whole flight is filmed, so you leave with footage of the ride to look back on and share with family, friends or on social media afterwards. Back on the beach, you can compare notes with anyone else who went up before or after you.
