Armenia — Visa Overview

About Armenia

Armenia is one of the world's oldest and most historically extraordinary destinations — a landlocked nation in the South Caucasus region that sits at the ancient crossroads of Europe and Asia, where civilisations have flourished for over 3,000 years. The world's first Christian nation — having adopted Christianity as its state religion in 301 AD — Armenia carries a depth of spiritual, cultural, and architectural heritage that is genuinely unparalleled for a country of its size.

Yerevan — one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities — captivates with its distinctive pink tuff stone architecture, the magnificent Cascade complex with its extraordinary modern art collection, the sobering Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial, and a vibrant cafĆ© culture, dining scene, and nightlife that has made it one of the Caucasus region's most exciting urban destinations. The ancient Garni Temple — the only surviving Hellenistic structure in the former Soviet Union — stands dramatically on a basalt gorge, while the medieval Geghard Monastery carved partially into a cliff face is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of extraordinary beauty. Khor Virap — the monastery at the foot of Mount Ararat where Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned — offers one of the world's most iconic and moving views — the snow-capped biblical peak of Ararat rising above the Armenian plains.

Lake Sevan — one of the largest high-altitude freshwater lakes in the world — enchants with its extraordinary turquoise waters and the medieval Sevanavank Monastery perched on its shores. The wine region of Areni — where the world's oldest known winery was discovered — produces extraordinary wines from indigenous grape varieties that have been cultivated for over 6,000 years. Dilijan — Armenia's Little Switzerland — charms with its forested landscapes, traditional wooden architecture, and world-class resort facilities. Safe, welcoming, extraordinarily affordable, and rapidly emerging as one of the Caucasus region's most compelling travel destinations, Armenia rewards every traveller with a genuinely authentic and deeply moving experience.

What is an Armenia eVisa?

The Armenia eVisa is a fully digital travel authorisation issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia — operated through the official eVisa portal — evisa.mfa.am. It is applied for entirely online and issued electronically as a PDF document delivered to the applicant's registered email address. No embassy visit is required. The approved eVisa must be printed and presented at the Armenian border checkpoint upon arrival — border officials may request a physical printout.

Is There a Sticker Visa for Armenia?

For most nationalities — No. Armenia's eVisa system covers the vast majority of nationalities. However certain nationalities classified as requiring an invitation letter must apply for a sticker visa through an Armenian Embassy or Consulate — they are not eligible for the eVisa online. For these nationalities, an official invitation letter from an Armenian entity (company, individual, or organisation) must be approved by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before a sticker visa can be issued. Rayna Tours will advise on the applicable route based on the applicant's specific passport nationality.

Four Entry Routes — Armenia

Route 1 — Visa Exemption (No Visa Required)

Citizens of 60+ countries may enter Armenia visa-free for up to 180 days per year — simply presenting their valid passport upon arrival. The following nationalities most relevant to Rayna's three markets are confirmed visa-free:

UAE Nationals — Visa-Free:
UAE nationals holding an Emirati passport are fully visa-exempt — they may enter Armenia for up to 90 days within any 180-day period without any visa, eVisa, or application of any kind. This is confirmed under the GCC bloc visa-free agreement signed on 22 February 2026 between Armenia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

KSA Nationals — Visa-Free:
Saudi Arabian nationals are also visa-exempt under the same GCC bloc agreement — they may enter Armenia for up to 90 days within any 180-day period without any visa or application.

Other Key Visa-Free Nationalities:
Australia Ā· Belarus Ā· Brazil Ā· China (90 days) Ā· Ecuador Ā· Georgia Ā· Hong Kong SAR Ā· Iran (90 days) Ā· Japan Ā· Kazakhstan Ā· Kuwait Ā· Kyrgyzstan Ā· Macao SAR Ā· Moldova Ā· New Zealand Ā· Oman Ā· Panama Ā· Qatar Ā· Russia Ā· San Marino Ā· Serbia Ā· Singapore Ā· South Korea Ā· Tajikistan Ā· Ukraine Ā· United Kingdom Ā· United States Ā· Uruguay Ā· Uzbekistan Ā· Vatican City Ā· and many others

Route 2 — Temporary Visa Exemption (Extended to 1 July 2027)

This is one of the most significant and practical benefits for Rayna's clients — confirmed directly from the official Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs document — mfa.am:

Nationals of 113 countries — including Indian nationals — who hold a valid residence permit issued by the United States, any EU or Schengen member state, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, or Oman — are exempt from the visa requirement and may enter Armenia without any eVisa or sticker visa — for up to 180 days within any one-year period.

This temporary visa exemption has been extended from 1 July 2026 to 1 July 2027 — confirmed from the official Armenian MFA document.

Key conditions for the Temporary Visa Exemption:

  • The residence permit must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Armenia
  • The residence permit must be presented as a physical card or as a sticker placed in the passport — electronic documents are not accepted
  • The residence permit must contain, in Latin script: the title of the document, the holder's full name, nationality, date of birth, and validity period in Gregorian calendar format
  • The qualifying residence permit must be from: USA Ā· Any EU/Schengen member state Ā· UAE Ā· Bahrain Ā· Qatar Ā· Saudi Arabia Ā· Kuwait Ā· Oman

This means — an Indian national holding a valid UAE Residence Visa (Emirates ID) with at least 6 months remaining validity may enter Armenia completely visa-free — no eVisa, no sticker visa, and no application required.

Route 3 — eVisa (Online Application)

Nationals of approximately 73 countries who are not eligible for visa-free entry or the temporary exemption — and are not from invitation-only countries — can apply for the Armenia eVisa online through the official portal — evisa.mfa.am. The eVisa is available in two options:

21-Day eVisa:

  • For short tourist and business visits of up to 21 days
  • Single entry
  • Valid for 90 days from date of issue — must enter Armenia within this period
  • Processing: 3 business days

120-Day eVisa:

  • For longer tourist and business visits of up to 120 days
  • Single entry
  • Valid for 90 days from date of issue — must enter Armenia within this period
  • Processing: 3 business days

eVisa Extension: eVisas can be extended for up to 60 additional days at AMD 500 (~USD 1.30) per day — apply up to 15 working days before expiry at the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia. Extensions processed within 2 working days.

Route 4 — Visa on Arrival

Visa on Arrival is available at Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport and other border crossings for eligible nationalities — including Canada, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Mexico, Thailand, Turkey, and others.

Additionally — holders of a valid visa or residence permit from the following countries may obtain a Visa on Arrival regardless of their own nationality:
USA Ā· Any EU/Schengen member state Ā· UK Ā· Australia Ā· New Zealand Ā· South Korea Ā· Japan Ā· Russia Ā· Canada

Important distinction for GCC countries: Only holders of a GCC residence permit qualify for Visa on Arrival — a GCC visit visa alone does not qualify. The applicant must hold an actual physical GCC residence permit.
