Malaysia — Visa Overview
About Malaysia
Malaysia is one of Southeast Asia's most captivating and diverse destinations — a vibrant nation of extraordinary natural beauty, remarkable cultural richness, and world-class modern infrastructure. Situated at the heart of Southeast Asia, Malaysia is a melting pot of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous cultures, creating a destination of unique depth and warmth that instantly captivates every visitor.
Kuala Lumpur — Malaysia's dynamic capital — dazzles with the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, one of the world's most recognisable skylines, alongside a thriving arts scene, world-class shopping, and a street food culture that is legendary across Asia. Penang — the Pearl of the Orient — enchants with its UNESCO-listed George Town, colonial heritage, and some of the finest cuisine in the region. Langkawi offers pristine beaches, emerald rainforests, and a duty-free island paradise that rivals the Maldives for natural beauty. The ancient rainforests of Borneo — home to orangutans, proboscis monkeys, and the magnificent Mount Kinabalu — represent one of the world's most extraordinary wildlife and adventure destinations.
Malaysia is also a global leader in Islamic finance, technology, and halal tourism — making it an equally compelling destination for business travellers. Safe, welcoming, affordable, and extraordinarily diverse, Malaysia is a destination that offers every traveller an experience of genuine richness and discovery.
What is a Malaysia eVisa?
The Malaysia eVisa is a fully digital visa issued by the Malaysian Immigration Department — Ministry of Home Affairs. It is applied for entirely online through the official Malaysia eVisa portal — malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my — and approved electronically. Upon approval, the eVisa is issued in A4 printout format — applicants must print their eVisa and present the physical printout upon arrival at Malaysian entry checkpoints. Showing the eVisa on a mobile phone or digital device is not accepted — a printed copy is mandatory.
Do You Need a Malaysia Visa? — UAE, India & KSA
UAE Nationals: UAE nationals are not on Malaysia's visa-required list and may enter Malaysia visa-free for social visits. No visa application of any kind is required.
UAE Residents of Other Nationalities: The visa requirement is determined by the passport held — not by UAE residency status. Residents of the UAE holding nationalities that are on Malaysia's visa-required list must apply for a Malaysia eVisa before travel. Rayna Tours will confirm the applicable requirement based on the applicant's specific nationality at the time of enquiry.
KSA Nationals: Saudi Arabian nationals are not on Malaysia's visa-required list and may enter Malaysia visa-free for social visits. No visa application is required.
KSA Residents of Other Nationalities: The visa requirement is determined by the passport held. Residents of KSA holding nationalities on Malaysia's visa-required list must apply for a Malaysia eVisa. Rayna Tours will confirm the applicable requirement based on the applicant's specific nationality.
Indian Nationals — Special Visa Exemption:
Effective from 1 December 2023 until 31 December 2026, Indian nationals are exempt from the visa requirement for social visit purposes to Malaysia. However, Indian nationals are required to complete an eNTRI (Electronic Travel Registration & Information) registration before travel. The eNTRI Note — issued as proof of registration — must be presented upon arrival in Malaysia. This is not a visa — it is a mandatory pre-travel registration under Malaysia's Visa Waiver Programme. Indian nationals must apply for eNTRI through the official Malaysian Immigration Department portal before departure.
Visa Type — Fully Digital eVisa
The Malaysia eVisa is issued entirely online through the official portal — malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my. No embassy visit, no passport submission, and no in-person appointment is required at any stage. Upon approval, the eVisa must be printed in A4 format and presented at Malaysian entry checkpoints — digital copies on mobile devices are not accepted.
eVisa Validity & Permitted Stay
The Malaysia eVisa for tourist purposes is valid for 3 months from the date of issue. The permitted stay per visit depends on the applicant's nationality and is determined by Malaysian Immigration at the time of approval. Applicants are advised to verify the specific permitted stay applicable to their nationality at the time of application.
Permitted Activities — Tourism & Business
Tourism: Sightseeing, leisure travel, visiting family or friends, cultural experiences, and short recreational activities.
Business: Attending meetings, conferences, trade exhibitions, and business discussions. Visitors on a social visit pass cannot engage in paid employment or perform any work for a Malaysian employer.
Important — Documents Required at Entry
All travellers entering Malaysia must present the following at the entry checkpoint:
Important — Yellow Fever Certificate
Travellers arriving from identified yellow fever risk areas are required to present a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate upon arrival in Malaysia. Failure to present this certificate may result in being quarantined or denied entry.
Overstay — Penalties
Overstaying in Malaysia is a serious immigration offence. Penalties for overstaying include fines of up to RM 10,000, detention, deportation, and entry bans. All such fines, penalties, and legal consequences are the sole responsibility of the traveller.
Processing Time
Processing typically takes 1 to 3 working days from the date of application submission. Applicants are advised to apply well in advance of their intended travel date. The eVisa application can be made from anywhere in the world except from within Malaysia, Israel, and North Korea.
General Disclaimer
All visa decisions — including approval, refusal, validity, and permitted stay — rest solely with the Malaysian Immigration Department. Rayna Tours acts as a professional visa assistance provider only. Submission of a complete application does not guarantee visa approval or entry into Malaysia.
