Uzbekistan — Visa Overview

About Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is one of the world's most extraordinary and historically significant destinations — the ancient heart of the Silk Road, where the legendary cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva have captivated merchants, explorers, and travellers for over two millennia. A landlocked Central Asian nation at the crossroads of East and West, Uzbekistan has opened dramatically to international tourism since 2017 and is now one of Asia's most exciting and fastest-growing travel destinations — a country of staggering architectural beauty, extraordinary Islamic art and craftsmanship, and a warmth of hospitality that leaves every visitor deeply moved.

Samarkand — the jewel of the Silk Road and a UNESCO World Heritage City — dazzles with the Registan, one of the most magnificent public squares in the Islamic world, its three soaring madrasahs adorned with intricate blue-tiled mosaics that glow brilliantly in the afternoon sun. The Shahr-i-Zinda necropolis — a breathtaking avenue of medieval mausoleums tiled in the most extraordinary turquoise and cobalt blue — and the Gur-e-Amir mausoleum — the tomb of Timur the Great, one of history's most powerful conquerors — complete a city of extraordinary architectural and historical depth. Bukhara — another UNESCO World Heritage Site — preserves over 140 architectural monuments and is one of the best-preserved medieval Islamic cities on earth, its Kalon Minaret, Mir-i-Arab Madrasa, and the covered trading domes of the old bazaar quarter speaking eloquently of centuries of Silk Road commerce and culture. Khiva — the perfectly preserved ancient walled city of Itchan Kala — is another UNESCO World Heritage Site that transports visitors entirely to another era, its mud-brick walls, ornate portals, and mosaic minarets almost completely unchanged from the medieval city that once stood there.

Tashkent — Uzbekistan's dynamic and rapidly modernising capital — offers a fascinating contrast between its Soviet-era grandeur and its rapidly emerging contemporary identity, with excellent museums, a vibrant food scene, and a warm and genuinely welcoming urban energy. The Fergana Valley — the agricultural heartland of Central Asia — enchants with its silk workshops, traditional pottery centres, and some of the finest fruit and vegetables in the region. Uzbekistan is a destination of extraordinary beauty, historical depth, and cultural richness — a country that rewards every traveller with experiences of genuine wonder and lasting memory.
