Langkawi Mangrove Tour With Shared Boat

The Langkawi Mangrove Tour takes you by boat through the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, part of Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, the first UNESCO Global Geopark in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, for a close look at its mangrove channels, limestone cliffs and wildlife over about three hours.

Your driver-guide collects you from your hotel and transfers you to the jetty, where you board the boat with your guide for the ride into the geopark's mangrove channels, an area where coastal karst formations and mangrove forest sit side by side.

Wildlife along the mangrove channels

As you glide through the channels, your guide points out the park's wildlife, including sea eagles that dive to catch fish from the water's surface, long-tailed macaques that gather along the banks, and otters that move in small groups near the water's edge. The channels wind between limestone cliffs formed from some of the oldest carbonate rock in the region, giving the park a landscape unlike anywhere else on the island.

Bat Cave and the geopark's rock formations

The boat stops at Gua Kelawar, the Bat Cave, a limestone cave that is home to a large colony of bats roosting along its ceiling, and continues past the geopark's floating fish farm, where fish are raised in pens, and a floating restaurant moored among the mangroves. Along the way, you get a closer look at the karsts and cliffs that give the park its geological character, shaped over hundreds of millions of years.
