A roundtrip hotel transfer collects you about 60 to 90 minutes before your selected slot, with the exact pickup time depending on your location and desert conditions. The drive itself is part of the experience: your 4x4 climbs and drops across the dunes during a dune bashing session, before leveling out near the camp as dusk approaches.

At the camp, a dedicated safari guide welcomes you with refreshments and stays with you for the rest of the evening, moving you smoothly between each activity. You can try a camel ride for a slower look at the dunes, then move on to a guided dune buggy ride across the sand and a sandboarding session down the slopes, with a dedicated stop built in for photos against the desert's changing light.

As the sky turns toward sunset, you settle into your chosen dinner setup, Arabic, Modern or Romantic, for a BBQ meal with both Arabian and international dishes served at your own table. A bonfire keeps the evening going once dinner winds down, in a setup kept separate from the standard shared desert camps, so you are not seated alongside other groups for the meal.

• Dress smart casual or in elegant evening wear that still works outdoors; closed shoes or flat footwear are recommended for walking on sand.
