This desert camel ride gives you a one-hour trek across the dunes near Al Aweer, outside Dubai, following a route that camels have used to cross this desert for generations. Including transfers, the outing runs from around 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Camels have long been central to life in the desert regions of the UAE, used for transport, trade and travel across the dunes before motor vehicles took over. This ride is built around that history, letting you retrace a version of the routes camels once carried travelers along, at the animal's own walking pace.

Transfer to the desert camp

A roundtrip hotel transfer takes you from centrally located Dubai hotels to the desert camp near Al Aweer, where your camel and an experienced handler are waiting. The transfer and camp time make up most of the day, with the ride itself taking about an hour.

The one-hour camel ride

At the camp, an experienced guide introduces you to your camel before the one-hour ride begins. You travel at a walking pace across the dunes, rising and dipping with the terrain much as desert travelers did before motor vehicles reached the region. Along the way, the guide points out details of the surrounding desert and answers questions about camels and their role in Emirati life.

After your ride

The ride is a steady, gentle pace rather than a fast trek, giving you time to take photos of the dunes and the horizon. Once you are back at the camp, you can add on a quad bike ride or a session of sandboarding on the surrounding dunes if you want more time in the desert.

An adrenaline junkie and culture aficionado can set off on an memorable journey with comprehensive options like Desert Safari with Dune Bashing and Desert Safari with Quad Biking. If calmness is all you need, go for Morning Desert Safari.<
