Hotel pickup and drive to Ayutthaya

Your day starts with a roundtrip hotel transfer that carries you out of Bangkok and into Ayutthaya's old town. As the drive continues, the scenery shifts from the modern city to a quieter, more rustic setting shaped by centuries-old ruins and a sense of history that grows more apparent with each temple you visit.

Wat Mahathat's tree-root Buddha head

The first stop is Wat Mahathat, once one of the most important temples in the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Its grounds are best known for a sandstone Buddha head that has grown into the roots of a tree over the centuries, an image that has become one of the most photographed sights in Ayutthaya. Walking among the temple's weathered brick towers and headless Buddha statues gives a sense of the scale the site once held.

Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon and Wat Phanan Choeng

From there, the tour continues to Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, recognizable by its large bell-shaped chedi and rows of seated Buddha statues draped in orange robes along its outer wall. The final temple stop is Wat Phanan Choeng, home to a large seated Buddha image that predates the founding of Ayutthaya itself and remains an active site of worship for local visitors today.

A break for lunch

Between temple visits, the tour breaks for a Thai lunch, giving you time to sit down and recover some energy before the last stretch of sightseeing. The pace throughout the day stays unhurried, with enough time at each site to take photographs and read about the history behind what you're seeing.
