Sacred Monkey Forest, known locally as Mandala Suci Wenara Wana, is a forest sanctuary and temple complex in the centre of Ubud. More than a thousand long-tailed macaques live here, freely roaming a protected area that also holds three centuries-old Hindu temples.
Shaded pathways wind past moss-covered stone statues, tall banyan trees, and traditional Balinese carvings, making the walk itself a highlight before you reach any of the temples. The forest's macaques move freely along the paths and through the trees, socialising with each other and often coming close enough for photos; keep to park guidance and avoid loose food or flashy accessories around them. Deeper into the grounds, Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal and the forest's other temples reflect Bali's Hindu heritage through stone carvings, bridges and sculptures built up over centuries. Soft light filtering through the canopy adds to the atmosphere, and most corners of the forest work as a backdrop for photos.
Sacred Monkey Forest suits families, photographers, and wildlife enthusiasts looking for a quiet break from Ubud's busier streets. Rayna Tours' local team manages your booking and voucher delivery, and is on hand for support before and during your visit.
