Mount Batur Jeep Sunrise Day Tour With Photographer

The Mount Batur Jeep Sunrise Tour is a half-day 4WD excursion into the Kintamani highlands, built around watching sunrise from a viewpoint over Mount Batur and Lake Batur. A photographer travels with the group, and the tour runs from the early hours to around midday.

Early pickup and the drive to Kintamani

For most options, a hotel pickup collects you in the early hours, generally from around 3:00 am, for the drive up into the highlands as the sky is still dark. If you choose the meet-at-Kintamani option, you make your own way to the starting point instead. Along the way, the air turns cooler as the road climbs toward Mount Batur, an active volcano rising about 1,717 metres within a UNESCO Global Geopark shared with Lake Batur.

At the viewpoint, you wait for first light as the sky turns shades of orange and gold and the outline of Mount Batur and the surrounding caldera comes into view. Your photographer moves around the group during this time, taking photos as the light changes.

Jeep ride across the lava fields

After sunrise, the 4WD continues over volcanic sand tracks and fields of black lava left by past eruptions, with your driver navigating the rougher terrain while you take in the landscape from inside the vehicle. Depending on the option chosen, the day can extend to include a rice terrace and waterfall visit, a hot spring soak, an ATV ride, a Balinese massage or a stop at a Kintamani cafe.

Some options add a complimentary welcome drink or a voucher for a partner restaurant or beach club, and entrance fees are covered where the itinerary includes them. The jeep returns you to your hotel by around midday, with Rayna Tours' local team coordinating the pickup, guide and photographer from start to finish.
