The Gate of Heaven

At Lempuyang, the split gate known as the Gate of Heaven is one of Bali's most photographed spots, and it helps to know what you are looking at before you go. Many of the reflection photos shared online are not taken beside real water. A local photographer holds a small mirror just below the camera lens to create the mirrored effect, so the pool beneath the gate in those pictures is an illusion rather than an actual pond, though the view of Mount Agung through the gate itself is genuine.

Rice terraces, villages and temples

Beyond the gate, the East Bali route takes in rice terraces, coastal villages and other temples around Karangasem, while the Ubud route leans toward the cultural sights around central Bali. Bottled water is provided throughout the day in an air-conditioned vehicle, and your driver-guide points out stops worth photographing between the main destinations. Admission fees for the spots you choose to visit around Karangasem are payable directly on site, since that part of the itinerary is built around your own preferences.

Because you have a dedicated car and driver for the day rather than a fixed group schedule, you can spend longer at a stop you enjoy, skip one that does not interest you, or ask your driver to adjust the route within your chosen coverage area.
