Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking is a guided early-morning hike up an active volcano in central Bali, timed so you reach the summit before sunrise, then descend past craters and lava flows, running from about 2 am to 10 am.

Pre-dawn pickup (2 am)

Your guide collects you by roundtrip hotel transfer in the early hours and drives you to the trailhead at the base of Mount Batur. From there, the climb begins by torchlight, following marked trails up the volcano with your guide leading the way. The trek needs only basic hiking stamina rather than technical climbing experience, though the path is steep in places and stays dark until you near the summit.

Summit at sunrise

You reach the top in time to watch the sky turn light over Lake Batur, Mount Agung, and the surrounding forest, with the ocean visible in the distance on a clear morning. It is a good window for photos before the group moves to the breakfast spot at the summit. Photographers get a clear line of sight across the crater rim as the light changes quickly in the minutes after sunrise.

Volcano breakfast

Once everyone has finished taking photos, breakfast is served using heat from the volcano itself: eggs cooked in volcanic steam, alongside fresh local fruit, coffee, and bread. A vegetarian option is available for the egg dish.

Descent through the crater trail

The way down passes close to old lava flows and craters, with your guide pointing out where the rock is still warm to the touch. Wild monkeys are often seen in the forest along this stretch, and there are several good spots to stop for photos before you reach the base by mid-morning.

Rayna's local team runs the pickup, the guided climb, and the drop-off from start to finish, so you have one point of contact throughout the early morning and can reach them if plans change.
