The Mount Batur Sunrise Jeep, Cafe and Photographer tour is an early-morning trip up Mount Batur, an active volcano in the Kintamani area, using a 4WD jeep instead of the usual trek on foot, so you reach the viewing area without strenuous hiking.
Pickup happens very early, generally before dawn, and your driver and local guide give a short safety briefing before you board a jeep built for the volcanic terrain. Hotel transfer is available on select packages, and the route heads toward Kintamani while it is still dark outside.
From the viewpoint, you watch the sky turn shades of orange, pink and gold over Lake Batur, the crater lake that sits beside the volcano, with Mount Batur's peak and the surrounding mountain range as a backdrop. At around 1,717 metres, Batur is one of Bali's most visited volcanoes, and the caldera around it was recognised as part of a UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in 2012. The calm, early light over the lake makes it a favourite spot for photos before the rest of the island wakes up.
Unlike a walking trek, this tour covers the volcanic landscape by 4WD jeep, crossing black lava fields and rugged tracks that are difficult to reach on foot. A photographer or guide travels with you to help frame shots of the lava terrain, the sunrise and the volcanic backdrop, and the pace suits travellers of different fitness levels.
The trip continues with a stop at one of Kintamani's cafes, such as AKASA, EL Lago or Paperhills, where a light breakfast and a hot drink are served with views over Mount Batur and the lake.
The tour is run by Rayna's own team on the ground in Bali, so your driver, guide and photographer are with you throughout the morning, and Rayna's local support can be reached before, during or after the trip.
