Almaty City Tour

Getting started

This tour does not include hotel pickup or drop-off, so you make your own way to the meeting point in the city center, where your guide greets the group and hands out headsets before setting off on foot through Almaty's streets, with the first stop just a short walk away.

Panfilov Street to the Ascension Cathedral

The walk takes you along Panfilov Street and past the Abay Opera House, then into Panfilov Park to see the Ascension Cathedral, a wooden cathedral built in the early 1900s and known as one of the tallest wooden buildings in the world, largely assembled without metal nails and still standing after a major earthquake in 1911.

Metro ride and city landmarks

From the park, the tour includes a ride on the Almaty Metro, a chance to see everyday city life underground and pass through a security check at the station, before continuing to sites such as the Monument of Independence, which marks Kazakhstan's independence in 1991, and the Green Bazaar, a covered market dating back to the Soviet era where you can browse local produce, spices and souvenirs, all within a compact, walkable route through the city center.
