Louvre Abu Dhabi

Louvre Abu Dhabi is a museum on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi's Cultural District, built through a joint agreement between the governments of the UAE and France. Designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel, the museum houses more than 600 artworks in a building topped by a 180-metre dome.

Inside, the collection is arranged across 12 galleries in chronological order, taking you from prehistoric artefacts and the earliest civilizations through the birth of Islam, the classical age and into the modern era. Loans from institutions such as the Louvre and Musee d'Orsay in Paris sit alongside works by artists including Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet. As you move through the galleries, the museum's dome overhead filters sunlight through thousands of star-shaped perforations, casting shifting patterns of light and shade across the walkways below, an effect the museum calls its rain of light.

• Carry a valid ID or passport with you for entry.
• Children's tickets are free, but must still be booked in advance and will be scanned at the museum entrance.
• Senior citizens who are UAE nationals or residents can get free tickets directly at the counter, with valid ID proof for age 60 and above.
• Wheelchairs and strollers are available on site.
• Last entry is 30 minutes before closing, with final admission to the museum at 5:30 pm.
• Outside food and drinks are not allowed inside the museum.
• Louvre Abu Dhabi is closed on Mondays.
• Eating, drinking and smoking are not allowed inside the vehicle during any tour that includes a transfer.
