Zimbabwe — Visa Overview

About Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is one of Africa's most rewarding and genuinely surprising travel destinations — a country of extraordinary natural beauty, ancient stone ruins, world-class safari parks, and the spectacular Victoria Falls, where the mighty Zambezi River plunges over the greatest curtain of falling water on earth. Despite a complex and challenging recent history, Zimbabwe has emerged as a warm, welcoming, and increasingly confident destination for international visitors — offering some of Africa's most authentic, unhurried, and genuinely immersive wildlife and cultural experiences at remarkably accessible prices.

Victoria Falls — one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World — is Zimbabwe's crown jewel, and the Zimbabwean side offers the most dramatic and expansive frontal views of the full width of the waterfall — a curtain of water over a kilometre wide and over 100 metres high, generating a permanent rainbow in the spray and a roar audible from kilometres away. The historic town of Victoria Falls — accessible directly from the falls — is the gateway to an extraordinary range of adventure activities that have made it one of Africa's most celebrated adventure tourism destinations. White water rafting in the Zambezi gorge below the falls — widely regarded as one of the world's finest white water experiences — bungee jumping off the iconic Victoria Falls Bridge Ā· microlight flights over the falls Ā· sunset cruises on the Zambezi Ā· elephant-back safaris Ā· and helicopter flips over the falls — combine to make Victoria Falls an experience of extraordinary variety and exhilaration.

Hwange National Park — Zimbabwe's largest and most celebrated wildlife reserve — supports Africa's largest elephant population alongside outstanding lion Ā· cheetah Ā· wild dog Ā· sable antelope Ā· and extraordinary general game populations across 14,651 square kilometres of pristine Kalahari bushveld. The Matobo Hills National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — enchants with its extraordinary granite kopje landscapes, ancient San rock art sites, and the grave of Cecil John Rhodes on the summit of World's View. Mana Pools National Park — another UNESCO World Heritage Site on the banks of the Zambezi — offers walking safaris of extraordinary intensity and intimacy in one of Africa's most remote and pristine wilderness areas.

Great Zimbabwe — the medieval dry-stone walled city that gave the country its name and is one of sub-Saharan Africa's most significant and impressive archaeological sites — dates from the 11th to 15th centuries and at its peak housed a population of up to 18,000 people. The Eastern Highlands — bordering Mozambique — offer cool mountain scenery, trout fishing, and extraordinary hiking at Nyanga and Chimanimani. Harare — Zimbabwe's capital — and Bulawayo — its second city — offer engaging museums Ā· vibrant markets Ā· and a warmth of welcome that characterises the Zimbabwean people throughout the country. Zimbabwe is a destination of extraordinary natural beauty Ā· rich history Ā· and genuine warmth — a country that consistently surprises and delights every traveller who takes the time to discover it.
