This half-day tour introduces you to Penang City in around four hours, moving through George Town's UNESCO World Heritage-listed streets, a handful of its best-known temples, the mixed neighbourhoods of Chinatown and Little India, and the murals that have made the area famous for street art.

Your driver-guide collects you from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle for the drive into George Town, once the trading base of the British East India Company and now home to one of Southeast Asia's best-preserved colonial old towns, with shophouses and government buildings dating back more than a century.

The route takes in Fort Cornwallis, a coastal fort built by the British East India Company and among George Town's oldest surviving structures, with cannons and ramparts still in place along the waterfront, then continues to Dhammikarama Burmese Temple, recognisable for its ornate roofline and statues, and Wat Chayamangkalaram, home to one of the region's largest reclining Buddha statues.

From the temples you move into Chinatown and Little India, where shopfronts, incense, and spice stalls reflect Penang's mix of Chinese, Indian, and Malay communities, and on to the Esplanade, a waterfront green space bordered by colonial-era government buildings and a popular spot for a short walk.

A stop at Chew Jetty follows, a waterfront settlement of wooden houses built on stilts over the harbour by early Chinese clan families and still lived in today. The tour then passes through George Town's street art lanes, including Armenian Street and Cannon Street, where murals and metal-rod caricatures cover the walls of old shophouses, offering plenty of stops for photos.

Your Rayna driver-guide stays with you throughout the route and can be reached directly if your plans need adjusting on the day, part of Rayna running the tour with its own local team from start to finish.
