This day trip from Yerevan travels south to Jermuk and the Tatev monastery complex, taking in a waterfall, a mineral water gallery, and the Wings of Tatev cable car in a single long day out.
A pickup within Yerevan starts the day, with bottled water provided on board for the long drive south toward Vayots Dzor and Syunik provinces.
The first stop is Jermuk, a spa town built around its mineral hot springs. The Jermuk Waterfall, also known locally as 'Mermaid's Hair' for the way the water fans out over the rock, drops around 68 metres and ranks among the tallest waterfalls in Armenia. From there, the Jermuk Mineral Water Gallery lets you sample the town's naturally carbonated spring water, the same water Jermuk has been known for producing.
The day continues to Halidzor, where the Wings of Tatev cable car covers the final stretch to the monastery, gliding above the Vorotan river gorge. At close to 5.75 kilometres, it is recognised by Guinness World Records as the longest non-stop, double-track cable car in the world, and the crossing takes around 12 minutes each way, with views straight down into the gorge below.
Tatev Monastery itself dates back to the 9th century and was, for centuries, one of the most important religious and educational centres in the region, perched on a plateau above the gorge. Its stone walls and churches remain largely intact, with views down into the gorge from the monastery grounds.
Transportation in a comfortable vehicle, bottled water and traffic accident insurance are included for the day; the ropeway ticket and lunch are arranged and paid separately on-site. Rayna's own local team runs the transfers and logistics for the day, so there is one point of contact if anything about the schedule needs to change over such a long round trip.
