Full Day Tbilisi and Mtskheta City Tour

The full-day Tbilisi and Mtskheta city tour combines a guided run through Tbilisi's historic and modern landmarks with a visit to Mtskheta, once the capital of the Kingdom of Iberia, over about six hours with a private driver-guide.

Pickup (9:45 am to 10:15 am)

Your driver-guide collects you from your Tbilisi hotel and starts with Holy Trinity Cathedral, known locally as Sameba, in the Avlabari district, followed by Metekhi Church and the statue of Vakhtang Gorgasali, the legendary founder of Tbilisi, on the cliff above the Mtkvari River.

Tbilisi's Old Town

From there you head into the Old Town, riding the Narikala cable car up to Narikala Fortress for views over the rooftops of Tbilisi and the Mtkvari River, then walking down through the Sulphur Bathhouse District past the Leghvtakhevi waterfall and on to Sioni Cathedral, one of the city's oldest churches. The tour also passes the Bridge of Peace and the Rezo Gabriadze Marionette Theatre, giving you a look at both the old city and its more recent landmarks, before continuing on to Mtskheta.

Mtskheta

About 20 kilometres from Tbilisi, Mtskheta was the capital of the Kingdom of Iberia from the 3rd century BC until the 5th century AD, and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here you visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, built in the 11th century on a site linked to Christ's robe, and Jvari Monastery, a 6th-century church on a hilltop overlooking the point where the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers meet, with local craft stalls to browse in the town below.
