This guided walking tour explores Munich's historic Old Town in English, built around a fixed two hour route that suits both first time visitors and weekend travellers. A guide leads the group on foot from central Marienplatz, sharing stories about the city's history and pointing out landmarks along the way.

Landmarks and their stories

The route takes in the New Town Hall and Marienplatz, the city's central square and traditional meeting point, along with Frauenkirche, Munich's cathedral and one of its most recognisable buildings with its twin onion domed towers. The guide explains how these buildings shaped the city over the centuries and what role they play in Munich life today, including the New Town Hall's glockenspiel figures that perform on the building's facade at set times.

Beyond the main sights

The walk continues through streets that carry their own history, taking in Maximilianstrasse, one of Munich's grand boulevards lined with theatres and shops, Odeonsplatz, and the Residenz, the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs and one of the largest city palaces in Germany. Each stop adds another layer to the picture of Munich's past, moving between royal history, everyday street life and quieter corners that many visitors miss when exploring on their own.

Local flavours to finish

After the guided portion ends, the group heads to Viktualienmarkt, a long running food market with stalls selling local delicacies, cheeses, produce and drinks, where there is time to relax with a coffee or a glass of wine before the tour officially ends. The guide shares tips and recommendations for continuing to explore Munich independently once the tour finishes, including where to go for a longer look at any of the sights covered along the way.
