This half day tour from Munich travels to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, the location of the first concentration camp built by the Nazi regime in 1933. A guide trained and authorised by the memorial accompanies the group for the full visit, including outbound and return transport by train and bus.
The memorial site exists for remembrance and education. The tour is structured around understanding the history of the camp and the people who were imprisoned there, rather than as a general sightseeing outing. Guides are trained to present the material with care for what visitors will encounter during the visit.
The guided portion covers the preserved original buildings on the site, the museum exhibition centre, and the on site cinema, which shows an English language documentary about the camp's history. The guide leads the group through the grounds and explains the layout and function of the different areas as they were used at the time.
Guides who lead this tour are trained and authorised by the memorial itself. They are expected to present the history with dignity and respect for the victims, avoiding a sensational tone. Visitors should expect a serious and at times difficult subject, handled with care by the guide throughout the visit.
Round trip transport from Munich is included, by a combination of train and bus, with the guide managing the group throughout the journey and the visit itself. The tour runs for around five hours in total from departure back to return in Munich.
Rayna Tours' local team manages the booking, so support is available through your voucher if you have questions before the day of travel.
