Your driver-guide collects you from your hotel and the day begins at Eagle Square in Kuah Bay, where a 12-meter, reddish-brown eagle statue stands over the waterfront with its wings spread as if about to take flight. Take a few minutes here for photos of the statue, the surrounding plaza and the views across the bay before continuing on.

From Eagle Square, the tour continues to the Tomb of Mahsuri, where your driver-guide shares the story behind Langkawi's best-known folk legend, a maiden said to have been wrongly executed in 1819 and, according to tradition, to have cursed the island for seven generations before her death. You can walk through the accompanying museum and the traditional wooden house built around her story. Next is Galeria Perdana, a gallery holding gifts, artwork and keepsakes presented over the years to Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia's fourth prime minister, with displays that range from ceramics and textiles to carvings and other pieces gifted by visiting dignitaries.

The tour then heads to Cenang Beach, one of Langkawi's best-known stretches of sand, lined with cafes, shops and stalls offering water activities. Here you can walk the shoreline, wade into the water, or sit down for a drink before the drive back. The final stop is Kuah Town, the island's duty-free hub, with time to browse for souvenirs, chocolates and local handicrafts, plus a short drive through the surrounding countryside past paddy fields and a local wet market with its produce and everyday goods on display.
