Batu Caves

The day starts at Batu Caves, a Hindu pilgrimage site set beneath towering limestone formations on the edge of the city. A gold statue of Lord Murugan stands at the foot of the coloured staircase that climbs to the cave temples above. There is time to take the steps, look around the caverns and hear from your driver-guide about why the site matters to the community that uses it.

Up into the Titiwangsa Mountains

From Batu Caves the road climbs into the Titiwangsa range, with a stop at Chin Swee Caves Temple on the way up. Admission to the Awana SkyWay cable car is included in both directions, and the cabins carry you over dense rainforest with the hills opening out below. This is the stretch most people keep a camera ready for.

Genting Highlands sits high enough that the air is noticeably cooler than Kuala Lumpur. You get free time to look around the resort at your own pace.
