This full-day tour trades Ho Chi Minh City's busy streets for the Mekong Delta, often called Vietnam's rice bowl for its dense network of rice paddies and fruit orchards. The road journey takes you through the countryside and small riverside villages on the way to My Tho, roughly 70 kilometres southwest of the city and the delta's main gateway town.

Your day begins with hotel pickup in central Ho Chi Minh City in the early morning, ahead of the drive out to the delta, which takes a couple of hours depending on traffic.

Mekong River cruise and island stops

Once on the water, you cruise along the Mekong River past Dragon, Unicorn, Turtle and Phoenix Islands, taking in the slow pace of delta life along quiet waterways lined with tropical trees. Smaller wooden boats carry visitors along some of the narrower channels for a closer look at daily fishing and farming along the banks.

Bee farm and coconut candy in Ben Tre

A stop at a local bee farm shows how honey is produced, with tastings of honey plus rice and banana wine made on site. In Ben Tre, a province known for its coconut industry going back generations, you watch coconut candy being made by hand, from raw coconut pulp through to the individually wrapped sweets, before a boat ride along narrow canals lined with coconut palms.

Lunch, tropical fruit and Vinh Trang Pagoda

A Vietnamese lunch at a riverside restaurant is followed by a stop at an orchard to sample seasonal tropical fruit while listening to live Southern Vietnamese folk music. The day ends at Vinh Trang Pagoda, a Buddhist temple known for mixing Vietnamese, Chinese and European architectural styles in a single building.

Rayna's local team looks after the booking and voucher for this tour, so support comes from the Ho Chi Minh City side rather than a distant call centre, before and after your day in the delta.
