Hotel pickup and drive to Hoi An

Your day starts with pickup from your Da Nang hotel, followed by a drive out to the Cam Thanh coconut forest. An English-speaking guide travels with you and explains the history of the area's water coconut groves along the way, from how the palms sheltered the village in the past to how they support the fishing community today.

Basket boat ride through the coconut waterways

At the forest, you climb aboard a round basket boat rowed by a local fisherman and glide beneath dense coconut palms along the narrow waterways. You get a turn at rowing the basket boat yourself, and the local rowers put on a cutting water display, spinning their boats at speed across the open channels. It is a good stretch for photos, with the palms reflecting on the calm water and everyday village life carrying on around you as fishermen check their nets.

Village life and lunch

Back on land, you spend time with the fishermen and villagers who have worked this coastline for generations, hearing about their daily routine and the tools of their trade before sitting down to a lunch of Vietnamese dishes.

On the drive back to Da Nang, there is an optional stop at a local specialty supermarket if you want to pick up souvenirs or regional products. Rayna's local team handles the pickup, guide and lunch arrangements for the day, so if anything needs adjusting on the ground you have someone to call.
