Golden Triangle tour with Temples and Museums

The Golden Triangle tour is a full day out from your hotel, running from around 8 am to 6 pm. It combines two contemporary Buddhist temples, two museums, and a viewpoint over the Golden Triangle, the point where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet, with a local lunch, water, and roundtrip transfer included in the day.

The day starts with hotel pickup, and an English-speaking guide travels with you throughout, covering the temples, museums, and the Golden Triangle viewpoint before returning you to your hotel in the evening.

The tour visits Wat Rong Khun, the White Temple, a contemporary Buddhist temple built almost entirely in white with inlaid mirrored glass, and Wat Rong Suea Ten, the Blue Temple, known for its deep blue and gold exterior and white Buddha statue. From there, the tour continues to the Black Museum, or Baan Dam, a collection of around 40 dark-toned buildings designed by the artist Thawan Duchanee, displaying animal bones, skins, and other objects, a deliberate contrast to the two temples that come before it and one of the more unusual stops on the day's itinerary.

The tour then heads to the Golden Triangle, the point where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet at the Mekong River, an area with a long history tied to the regional opium trade. The nearby Opium Museum covers that history in detail, from its origins in traditional medicine to its growth into a large-scale trade. A local Thai lunch and a bottle of water are included partway through the day, giving you a break before the final leg of the drive.
