Kayak Experience Srilanna National Park

The Kayak Experience at Sri Lanna National Park is a full day out in Chiang Mai's mountain wilderness, running from 8 am to 4:30 pm and centred on longtail boat cruising and kayaking on the Mae Ngat Reservoir.

Into the forest

The day starts under the canopy of Sri Lanna National Park, a protected stretch of evergreen, deciduous and dipterocarp forest north of Chiang Mai, established in 1989 as Thailand's 60th national park. Trails lead through the reserve past dense tree cover and open valley views, and it is common to spot a sambar deer foraging quietly or a troop of long-tailed macaques moving through the branches overhead. The cooler, cleaner mountain air is a clear change from the city below.

Kayaking on Mae Ngat Reservoir

From the forest, the tour continues to Mae Ngat Reservoir, a lake inside the park where forested hills and mountain ridgelines rise straight out of the water. You paddle a kayak at your own pace across the calm surface, with the surrounding peaks and sky reflected in the water below. It is an easy, low-effort way to cover ground on the reservoir and take in the scenery from angles a walking trail cannot offer.

A longtail boat cruise

The kayaking pairs with a ride on a traditional longtail boat, carrying up to six passengers across the same reservoir waters at a gentler pace. Between the kayak and the boat, there is time to photograph the mountain backdrops, the still water and the forest line without rushing from one viewpoint to the next.

An English-speaking guide travels with the group for the day, and drinking water is provided along the way. Rayna's local team in Chiang Mai looks after the booking and stays reachable before and during your day at the park.
