Your guide meets you in front of the main entrance of the Bode Museum, at the bottom of the stairs, wearing a name tag so you can find each other easily. From there, you step into the museum's grand entrance hall, where the tour sets its pace for the walk ahead.

Unter den Linden and the Old Arsenal

The route continues to the Old Arsenal on Unter den Linden, now home to the German Historical Museum, where your guide draws out stories from Berlin's changing past. From there, the walk crosses onto Museum Island itself, passing the Humboldt Forum, Altes Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Pergamon Museum and Neues Museum, each shaped by a different period of the city's history.

Courtyards and architectural details

Along the way, you step into the Kolonnadenhof, or Colonnade Court, and select entrance halls and courtyards, including the Schlüterhof at the Humboldt Forum, which is included in the tour even though entry to the museums themselves is not. The Altes Museum, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and opened in 1830, is one of Germany's earliest purpose-built museum buildings, and your guide explains how it set the template for the island's later museums.
