This guided walking tour covers Berlin's landmarks from the Middle Ages to the Cold War in a single route through the city centre. A guide leads the group on foot for the length of the walk, stopping at the sites that shaped the German capital's history, from royal palaces to the divided city of the Cold War era.
The tour begins in front of the Starbucks Coffee opposite Hackescher Markt S-Bahn station, a central spot that is easy to find on foot or by public transport. From there, your guide sets out the route through the city on foot, with no coach or transfer involved at any point.
The walk takes in the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Cathedral and Palace Square, along with the site of Checkpoint Charlie, once the best known crossing point between East and West Berlin. At Bebelplatz, the guide explains the 1933 Nazi book burnings that took place on the square, and at the site of Hitler's bunker, you hear the story of the war's final days in the city.
The route also passes Museum Island, home to several of Berlin's major museums, and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, where the guide covers the history and design behind it. Throughout the walk, the guide connects these sites into one narrative, running from Berlin's founding in the Middle Ages through the era of the Prussian kings, two world wars and the Cold War division of the city.
The tour is on foot throughout and runs regardless of weather, so dress for the day's conditions. It covers a good distance across the city centre, and Rayna's local team handles the booking and arrangements, staying available for support before and after your walk.
