Baku to Shahdag Tour

This day trip runs from about 10 am to 7 pm and takes you from Baku to the Shahdag Mountain Resort, roughly three hours away in the Greater Caucasus range. The resort is Azerbaijan's first and largest, opened to the public in 2012, and sits close to Shahdag National Park, an area known for its intact ecological system.

Morning drive to Shahdag

An English-speaking driver-guide collects you from your hotel lobby in Baku, and the group sets off on the roughly three-hour drive north into the mountains. The route climbs steadily, moving from the city into forests and villages of the Greater Caucasus foothills, with views that change gradually as the road gains elevation before reaching the resort.

Time at the resort

At Shahdag, you have time to explore the resort complex and its surroundings. A number of activities are available on site, including horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, zip-lining, and a roller coaster ride, though these are arranged and paid for separately at the resort. The resort also has plans for additional hotels, golf facilities, and cottages as it continues to grow. This gives the day a mix of structured resort activities and unplanned time to take in the mountain scenery at your own pace.

Skiing in season (December to April)

Between December and April, snow conditions permitting, the resort operates as a ski destination, with skiing and snowboarding available on 37 slopes for different levels. Outside these months, the mountain setting still makes for a scenic stop, with the other adventure activities available regardless of season.
