Indulge and excite all
your senses during Georgian vacation by making an unforgettable excursion to
the sights along Kakheti. Being the region where Georgia’s first wines were
produced more than 8000 years ago, Kakheti is often acknowledged as the ‘Cradle
of Wine’ and is popular all over the world for its traditional wine making
centers. Beginning from your hotel in Tbilisi, this tour will introduce you to one
of Georgia’s ancient landscape filled with many architectural gems including
churches, monastery, historic monuments etc, besides allowing you to take in
its delightful rolling hills and age-old fertile vineyards.
The first stop of your
Kakheti Excursion will be Bodbe Monastery – the resting place of the revered 4th
century apostle, St. Nino. Facing the stunning Alazani Valley, this 9th
century Orthodox Monastic Complex is now a nunnery and is placed on a hillside,
with the most picturesque views of Caucasus Mountains in the background. See
St. Nino’s tomb; stroll around its tranquil gardens with tall pine trees; and
take a dip in the holy St. Nino’s spring, known for its therapeutic powers. Now
press on your trip to one of Kakheti’s most exquisite towns - Sighnaghi.
As a settlement,
Sighnaghi was developed during the reign of King Erekle II in the 18th
century. Evidently, you’ll come across many historic as well as cultural
attractions covering churches, classic Italian style structures etc. Of all sights,
the unmissable is Sighnaghi Great Wall – the well-preserved 18th
century fortress wall that stretches for more than five kilometers. Perched
high on a hill, the fortress consists of more than 25 watch towers and a climb
up to one of them will reward you with the unrivalled views of the environs.
Apart from this, Sighnaghi is dubbed as the ‘City of Love’ for its distinct
wedding house where one can get married anytime without any pre-submission of
documents.
