a Masterpiece of Gothic Style Architecture
Conciergerie, along the
legendary Seine River, stands as one of the imposing illustrations of secular
Gothic architectures. Come appreciate its architectural details up close! There
are four Gothic towers – the oldest of all which is Bonbec Tower; it epitomizes
the region’s tumultuous past. The next is the Silver Tower which once served as
the royal treasury. Named after the Roman sovereigns, the Caesar Tower
represents the impact of Roman rule in Paris. The fourth tower is the 16th
century Horlage Tower with an antique clock that is regarded as the region’s
oldest and first public clock.
Marvel
at its Intriguing Sections
As you enter the
structure, the first thing that you will see is the Salon des gens d’armes or
the Hall of Soldiers. Interestingly, it is the Europe’s oldest remaining
medieval hall. You also get to check out the Guards Room, along with medieval
kitchens and the Toilette. As you move upstairs, take a look at the Memorial
Room which commemorates the prisoners who were killed via the guillotine. The
grim Parisian past is unveiled as you walk through its damp dungeons. There is
