Journey through different eras of human history and discover a wealth of cultures and artistic masterworks on your visit to Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum. Imposingly dominating Saadiyat Cultural District in Abu Dhabi, this art museum is not just the biggest of its kind but also the first universal museum in the Arabian world. And more importantly, its iconic name is the result of a 30-year agreement between Abu Dhabi and French governments, making it the only Louvre museum outside of Paris.
Start your Louvre Abu Dhabi experience admiring its breathtaking architecture!
A brilliant masterpiece from the prestigious Prtitzker-winning architect - Jean Nouvel, the vast 24,000-square-meter museum is developed as a stunning micro-city over the water. It contains 55 detached structures which immaculately take on the profile of a traditional Arabian medina or city. Referencing the age-old Emirati way of roofing with interlaced palm leaves, it’s especially awe-inspiring for its massive dome featuring an intricate geometric design with over 7800 stars. The natural light which sieves in through the dome’s thin perforations results in a distinct rain of light phenomenon, providing an incredibly natural light-and-shade backdrop for the museum’s treasured displays and sections.
See a vast array of legendary displays from diverse cultures and history!
Boasting 23 galleries for displays, the museum presents its 600 plus creative artworks chronologically in 12 distinct sequences. Starting from pre-historic times and covering almost all civilizations, this allows visitors to comprehensively explore the influences and captivating links between varied cultures from across the world.
Apart from its permanent exhibits such as an image of Bactrian princess dating back to 3rd BC, a 3000-year-old bracelet, and a 19th century painting by Osman Hamdi Bey, you’ll get the unique opportunity to see here close to 300 timeless masterpieces that have been loaned from 13 major French institutions like Louvre Museum and the Centre Pompidou.
