Opening Hours of Dubai Musuem

Sunday, 5 May, 2013

A visit to Dubai Museum that is housed within the two hundred-year-old Al Fahidi Fort is a must to get a slice of Dubai’s rich heritage and history. Once served as the residence of the Emirate’s ruling family and then as the administrative centre of the Dubai government, the museum – centrally located in Bur Dubai - enables you to step back to a time before Dubai rose to fame as a global holiday spot with its glossy skyscrapers and one of its kind attractions.

On display here are a myriad of art and artifacts that throw light on various aspects of Dubai’s ancient life that catapulted the destination to what we see now. This includes excavated artifacts tracing back to 3rd century BC, exhibits revealed from the archeological sites of Jumeirah, Al Qusais, Al Sufouh and Hatta, relics that reflect Islamic period and tombs dating back to pre-historic times. One of the key highlights of the museum is a video presentation that takes you through a journey to the lifestyle of Emirati people prior to the discovery of oil in the 1960s. Things to see in Dubai Museum also include ancient dhows and replica of traditional desert house replete with sitting, sleeping and cooking areas.

The museum is open to public from 8:30 hrs to 20:30 hrs on all days except for Fridays. A very nominal fee of AED 3/ is charged for adults and children above 6 years old to gain entry to the museum. For kids under 6 years old, it is just AED 1.
